Instead of making a cradle-to-grave biopic, Trank makes a horror movie featuring one of our most notorious gangsters, showcasing a brutal, but not somber, desire to see one of history's most infamous criminals at his most distraught, dismayed, and vigorously vulnerable. I don't imagine a lot of people are going… There is an attempt to create a movie different than the rest when it comes to this kind of stories. However, not only is the section they picked so uninteresting (or at least that's how it is depicted on screen) but it feels so choppy and unnecessary to be told that it was extremely boring. Tom Hardy delivers a great performance as well as the rest of the cast, but they have nothing to really work with that most of them go unnoticed. There is no climax, so it all feels like a prolonged dream, as there is no clear sign of what is a dream and what is real. Really messy film, and boring at that.
